2010 Highlights
The first ever Weapons of Mass Creation Fest took place on May 22-23, 2010. The venue was Parish Hall and Church in the Gordon Square district. We had a lot of good bands and designers come out. We also featured a few films as part of the main program. It was our first year and things didn’t always go as planned, at the last minute we had some cancellations but Danielle DeBoe and Hallie Bram saved the day for us and agreed to speak at the last minute. Even our venue was forced to change one month prior the event! But somehow we managed to pull it off. 300-400 people attended over the weekend and was buzzing with positive energy.
In its first year, film was a major part of it. We had the pleasure of screening some great films including Tiny Furniture by Lena Dunham, You Won’t Miss Me by Ry Russo Young, and Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie by Jay Delaney. Looking back, the screenings were an intimate, late-night gem which was enjoyed by the dozen or so kids who stayed to watch. It was great, but in the end, the film portion wasn’t quite our area of expertise, so we have decided to focus more on design, music, and speakers for 2011. But here’s a snapshot of what happened last year:
